MAC UK delivers mental health support to the UK’s most excluded and deprived young people. The charity has developed the Integrate programme, it involves teams of mental health clinicians going out into community and delivering services on the streets, directly to the young people that need it.
The charity was set up by Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Charlie Howard in 2008, she found the most excluded young people are often those most in need of mental health support, but are the least likely to access it. Charlie worked alongside a group of ex-gang members in Camden to develop her programme and ensure young people’s needs and experiences shaped what she delivered.
By tackling mental health issues the Integrate team hope they can help young people to better lives, whilst at the same time reducing youth violence and re-offending rates, encourage young people into employment training or education and help them connect with existing mental health services.
